Golf at Lanzarote

At the island of Lanzarote there are 2 golf courses, the old Costa Teguise https://lanzarote-golf.com/ and the younger Golf Tias https://lanzarotegolf.com/

The courses are about 1/2 hour's drive from Club La Santa sport.

Both courses are challenged by the fact that there is almost no precipitation on the island. The quality of the grass therefore depends on irrigation. Over the last 5 years it has become much better as watering has been prioritized, so although Lanzarote is not a golf destination, both courses are worth playing.

On the Costa Teguise there are several places where there is a lack of grass on the fairways and the grass has been substituted by lava gravel; But it has also improved. My estimate is that at least 80% of the fairways are covered with grass. On the other hand, the greens are really good (and difficult) and the tee boxes are fine. Overall, a difficult course!

Golf Tias is less than 10 years old and is becoming a good and entertaining course with beautiful views towards the Atlantic Ocean. Pretty much grass on all the fairways and good greens; but not at the level of Costa Teguise. A somewhat easier course.

For both courses, if you land outside the fairways, the surface is again lava gravel. It is recommended to bring a used iron that you are not too sore about (6-7 iron), as the lava gravel can give the iron some scratches. It is common practice to tee up the ball when playing from the lava gravel (without penalty).

Training conditions on both courses are below average, with worn balls on the driving range and small putting greens.

Both clubhouses are cozy and with a nice terrace.

Remember that Lanzarote is windy and that the sun almost always shines, so wear sunscreen. In September, it is usually also warm.

At La Santa Sport there is a reasonable golf training facility, with 6-8 impact mats against a net, bunkers and chipping and a putting green that is super-fast. Also, the option of instruction and the useTrackman.

In addition, there is the opportunity to practice all types of sports at the resort. For example, there are 3 Olympic swimming pools with a total of 24 lanes of 50 meters!

So, if you like sun and outdoor activities, I can recommend Club La Santa Sport, also if you want to play golf.
